Ann Maher Family
« on: Saturday 06 June 20 00:26 BST (UK) »
Hi. Can anyone help with info about Ann Maher?

I know she married John Dean (Deane) in Feb 1906 although the record has his name as Dane I think it’s an error. They were married in Mullingar

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1906/10128/5684945.pdf

As you can see from the record her father was Joseph Maher a farmer.

The only other record I found is the census 1911

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Wicklow/Bray_No__2/Sidmonton_Terrace/892124/

The census record has my grandmother Bridget J Deane.

I’m looking for help tracing Ann Mahers family please. Thank you

I thought this was going to be straightfoward, for Anne's marriage registration address of Clonyhague and father's details seemed to read across nicely to Joseph Maher and Bridget Baker and family in 1901:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Westmeath/Ballynagotr/Clonyhague/1784631/

No sign of Anne there, but I wondered if the following was a candidate in that same census (age a bit adrift from the 1911 census though):
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Westmeath/Kinnegad/Kinnegad/1781707/

Regardless, this whole line of thought received a very serious setback, when a 32 year old unmarried daughter Anne popped up in the household in 1911 (Joseph having died in 1904):
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Westmeath/Ballynagore/Clonyhague/887284/

And what is going on with Rose's age in the two censuses?

To add to my confusion, while I could see births / baptisms for the other Maher children, I struggled with Anne - the closest I could get was a baptism on 20 February? 1881, in the same parish where the other Maher children were baptised, for an Anne Marshall  ???, parents recorded as Joseph, and Bridget Baker (left page):

So fresh eyes needed on this I think, for maybe I'm not seeing something obvious.

Just to add to the woes, I cannot yet find a civil registration of the marriage between Joseph Maher and Bridget Baker, the church record (below) confirms that it took place on 16 January 1876, witnessed by Christopher and Mary Munroe, but that's all the information there is (right page):

https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635097#page/74/mode/1up

I'm conflicted, for my gut tells me these are the right folk, but while I've seen a few instances where the same person appears twice in the same census (for explainable reasons), it's not a common occurrence and the description of Anne at Clonyhague as single in the 1911 census leaves me uncomfortable. Could another daughter be known as Anne (maybe a middle name)? Hopefully someone will post to discount this family or resolve the seeming inconsistency.

Nice one Gaffy     i had found a few things but was'nt sure
There appears to be a birth in Mullingar 1881 for an  Anne Marshall but wrong page showing would be interesting to see if any statuatory declaration's added later.
Also adding that one of Anne Marshall's sponsors was Bessey Heney who appears to be this lady nee Baker
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Westmeath/Ballynagotr/Clonyhague/1784628/

i think they married prior to 1864
Bessie's husband James was the informant on Thomas Baker's death in 1892
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1892/06026/4715867.pdf

which also led to Bridget Maher nee Baker's pension in 1921 (Munroe connection)

Which ties in with this baptism of Bridget on 24 October 1858 (left page, 2nd entry down):

Haven't quite caught up with all the posts but my first thought this morning was that in 1911 Bridget may have just named all her children to the enumerator, I think it's fairly clear he filled in the census form for her, and as usual in these cases errors crept in, however am I correct she named all her children, or could she have named living children.
Or I'm talking through my sleep deprived hat....

Thank you all very much for you help.

I understand the Munroe connection now, but am I right to think that I still can’t be certain about my Ann Maher?

I’m still a little confused sorry
