1939 he is living in Wortley RD.

How about Wortley Branch Christian Union ?  The animals on the crest look Australian ... something odd about it, doesn't look British OFFICIAL crest-like.

It looks like the City of Bradford coat of arms
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Bradford,

(though wikipedia says the coat of arms was granted in 1976)

The City of Bradford Arms were based on the arms of the County Borough of Bradford ;D
Can't find a picture, though?

They look like Hares/Rabbits either side of the shield on the image we are looking at, nothing like the animals on the Bradford crest

The hare: This was probably introduced into heraldry as a symbol for one who enjoys a peaceable and retired life. Likewise the rabbit has similar meaning (although the hare is the more rare). Also, since rabbits and hares reproduce prodigiously, they have become symbols for lust and great fertility.

Perhaps it was to do with his marriage  ;D

The tails are wrong for hares/rabbits.

I'd like to ask what the medal is made from.  OK, I can see .375 is 9 carat gold, the Assay Office appears to be Birmingham (but the anchor is quite crude) and the year letter A is for 1926.  However, the engraving does appear to be almost "amateurish"  :-\

That was my thought too BB.   :).

The animals could be anything, they don't appear to have horns either.  I wondered what that figure was at the top of the shield, first thought was a blacksmith but it also looks as though there is a bird on a branch.
