By putting "Johnson" and 1953 there are many, many pages BUT George Octavius is on page 13  ;)

Ah yes. I saw that before but it just said that probate has gone to William Bennett Accountant and Auditor. I think that he can't have left a will. Btw Rosie99 the names you found before are all names of his family members. ie Ellen is his mother and the rest are the names of his brothers. I did think he might have named his children after his brothers and perhaps he also married an Ellen but now I reckon he didn't marry after all.

If the entry says PROBATE then there was a will as its the will that is 'proved'.

Many people did, and still do, use a solicitor to deal with probate. The solicitor may have been a named executor or have been appointed by a named executor to act on their behalf.

Executors are not necessarily beneficiaries of a will though they can be.

If the entry says Administration granted to .. then he died intestate i.e. no will.
