Mary K Harmes / George William Dilloway /George H Perry
« on: Saturday 06 June 20 20:42 BST (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone can do some lookups for me as I have hit the proverbial Brick Wall. I am looking for information on Mary K Harmes b1917 I think in Brighton who married George Dilloway b1916-2006
in 1940 in Brighton. Mary went on to remarry in 1947 to George H Perry in Brighton who I cannot find except for a marriage entry. He was in Brighton in 1939 and I have found an entry that he was a Sapper RE 10069003 and listed as an inmate and single.I have no clue as to what the inmate is about. I believe he may have born 29/06/1918.
I am looking for information on the above persons and the parents of the above persons. From information from someone in the Dilloway family it was said that Mary K had run off with a Canadian soldier, could that be George H Perry?
Thanking you all in anticipation.

Looking at the 1939 entry you mention - he appears to be living with his mother.

A copy of the 1947 marriage cert should give his fathers name

He died as George Herbert D Perry Oct 1991 Brighton and you will find his birth reg on www.freebmd.org.uk.  His mothers maiden name was Ashwell & he was born in West Ham

Freebmd has a marriage in 1917 between George F Perry & Margaret M Ashwell

No Canadian connection

You will find Mary’s birth on freebmd so can use the same site to look for her parents marriage

Use the 1901 & 1911 censuses to trace both sets of parents to determine their birthyears/places/parentage

Hi Carole
Thanks for your help, I will have a look at what you have suggested tomorrow.  The bit about George H Perry as an inmate is intriguing. Was he in Hospital or a sanatorium recovering for war injuries. So need to find out that one. Also wanted to find the death date of Mary K Harmes. Thanks again. Dave

There is nothing on the 1939 that says anything about him being an inmate?

I think that you are talking about an orange mark of a number 1 ,which seems to apply to everyone on that page.Maybe to denote that the enumerator had transferred everyone across properly to the main register.

The inmate reference is on the front of the transcription after OVSPI.  Must be an error.  Haven’t you viewed the actual entry??

Hi Carole
I have been trying to access the Freebmd records for birth and the 1901 and 1911 censuses but with no success all I seem to get is "cant find records or too many entries" or other errors. I am on Ancestry but that does not produce any results, I did find one that suggested Mary Kathleen Harmer was born in Basford Nottinghamshire with a mothers maiden name of Willett. Tried searching for that but again no results. Not sure where to go next!!!!
