Alexander Marr's Place of Baptism?
« on: Saturday 06 June 20 22:48 BST (UK) »
Good day to you all!

I'm trying to decipher the place of baptism for Alexander Marr who was baptised on May 2 1720. Father's name is Thomas. The place looks like Anugstown, Angriston, or something like that but I can't find it on the web?

what's the location of the church/chapel where the baptism took place/register is from?

It's likely to be in a nearby county, but we don't know even what COUNTRY that register is from

There is an 'Angustown' in Aberdeenshire here:
https://scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/digital-volumes/historical-tax-rolls/farm-horse-tax-rolls-1797-1798/farm-horse-tax-1797-1798-volume-01/104

Now I think 'Anguston' if you Google it.

(You do realise you transposed two letters in your post? - you wrote  'Anugston' - there would be nothing spelt like that.)

Looking at other places mentioned in those farm tax rolls ('Milltimber', 'Binghill'), they would seem to now be part of Aberdeen.

The parish given there for these places  is 'Peter Culture' for which nothing comes up now.

Thanks Goldie - Angustown now Anduston!

Thanks!

As far as I can see it's now ANGUSTON, not Anduston.
Did you look at the links?

Goldie is correct. It is definitely Anguston today. A cousin and a brother of mine both worked at the farm of Easter Anguston.
