4 St. Albans Avenue, Bournemouth
« on: Monday 08 June 20 10:58 BST (UK) »
Hello,

My grandma was born here, to an unmarried mother from Wiltshire in 1942. I was wondering if perhaps it was a maternity home or something, but I haven’t turned anything up. Would anyone please be able to have a look around for me?

I’d appreciate any help!

Have you looked at the property in 1939, it looks like a privately owned house then though the head of the household appears to have possibly died in 1943.

Yes, I just saw that. Looks to have been a few sisters. Perhaps they just took ladies in ???

My great-grandma was the informant, and she gave her home address in Wiltshire. The father was living in Wiltshire too at the time, so I assume she was ‘sent away’ to have my grandma :(

Google is not bringing up anything on the property of interest and nothing in online newspapers.  Maybe someone can do an electoral register search for you once life is a bit more normal.

Are you quite sure the address is number 4?

There was a 'Free Church Council Maternity Home' at number 11 St Albans Avenue.
