I've researched all the Patrick Ryan's in Bradford without any luck, a few of them lived in the same area, even the same street. His late father was called William and was also a tailor. The witnesses were Robert and Mary Emma Hardie, who I've also attempted to trace. Patrick was a Widower.

His late father was called William and was also a tailor. …... Patrick was a Widower.

That fits with 1861 census for Father, and 1861 1871 and 1881 and 1891 for married then widowed.

The problem is the very variable age.  He just did not know, I think.

On 1861, nor marked as separate household from Patrick, but described as head is William Ryan age 50 from Ireland a tailor, his wife Margaret age 56 and daughter Charlotte age 12 (from Ireland).
This might be worth looking into, William (father) is of the right age.

Thank you Chempat, It's a few years since I hit the wall and I haven't done much research since, so I no longer have any subscriptions and am not up to speed with my findings or conclusions. I did try to find the witnesses on the marriage certificate and thought I may have found them (similar names) in Scotland and there was also a Patrick Ryan in the area. Having just looked at the 1881 census again, there is a Patrick of the right age and occupation in Glasgow, is that the one you have found ? with his father William at a different address nearby ?

Chempat, I found the "91, "81 & "71 transcriptions several years ago and discounted them after further research and the "61 is too far out with the dates. As per my original post , I'm looking for a possible Kendal connection. The 1881 entry in Glasgow is also worth following up, with an indication that Ballina is the Irish township of the family's origin. I've not seen the census transcription with William Ryan aged 50 that you've found, if you have more details on that, I'd be very interested to see it. Thanks
