Mary Ann BROCK - 1823/1824 Rickinghall - Parents?
« on: Wednesday 10 June 20 13:18 BST (UK) »
Hello Everyone,

I thought I had the parents names for Mary Ann Brock born 1823  Rickinghall Inferior, Suffolk but now I’m not so sure.

I know it’s a John Brock and Mary (and after checking our records thought it could be John Marshall Brock and Mary Nichols from Lowestoft).

Mary Ann Brock married William Palmer in 1844.  Their daughter Zilpha Maria Palmer was born 1849 Rickinghall Superior.

Please could someone check for me (if it’s not too difficult) to try confirm Mary Ann Brock’s parents?  It would be a great help to myself and my family.

Thank you  :)

Baptism does not give a middle name for her father.  Not mentioned on siblings baptisms either

Mary Ann Brock
Baptism 19 Oct 1824
Place   Rickinghall Inferior, Suffolk
Father. John Brock

Thank you for your reply.

Do you think that maybe the John Marshall Brock is the wrong John?
He is from Lowestoft so a distance from Rickinghall.

Thanks

You would need to see what happened to John Marshall Brock's parents Roger Brock/Jane Marshall and any possible siblings.  It may be worth looking to see if there was a will made by Roger or Jane

It is possible that he dropped the Marshall though his burial puts his birth 1788.

Do you have John’s death date?

I’ve had a look and there is another John Brock born 1788 who married a Mary Ann but he was born in Scotland.  In 1851 he’s living in Great Yarmouth.

Maybe there are 2 John Brock’s who married a Mary.  (This is making it more puzzling).

Thank you

There is a long letter in The Suffolk Chronicle; or Weekly General Advertiser & County Express. 22 February 1840

It was inserted by a Charles Brock of Hopton in Suffolk 18 February 1840.

It mentions that John Brock of Rickinghall Inferior was much opressed with affliction and poverty - it talks about him not being able to work - being hung up at Bury Gaol - his wife being denied assistance from the relieving officer when he was dying..then he begged of his wife to send to Hopton for his mother & brother for he felt dangerously ill.  Mother & brother employed a doctor but it was too late he died January 28th 1840

Looks like Mary from 1841 Census was Susans Daug;

Susan Fuller has died by 1851

1851 Census
Botesdale, Suffolk
George Fuller   30 Head Widr born Botesdale, Suffolk
Mary Brock   65 Servant Widow Housekeeper born Thoresham
Mary Ann Brock   12 Grand daughter born Stommroket
George Brock   8 Grandson born Rickinghall

Typed as indexed. Mary Ann and George should be Grandchildren of Mary Brock not George Fullers?
