Chelsea Out Pensioner - how paid? Records kept?
« on: Thursday 11 June 20 08:18 BST (UK) »
Morning all, my GGGGFather Joseph (Jos) Aguerra born circa 1775 in Guadaloupe. Service Record WO/97/150/52 confirms birth in Guadaloupe, and enlisted in London 1 Sept 1800 to 7 June 1801 in 52nd Foot Regiment then 16 June 1801 to 19 July 1823 a Drummer in Grenadier Guards and another Pay/Muster record from 1815 supporting this.

A record I can't see is Royal Hospital, Chelsea: Disability and Royal Artillery Out-Pensions, Admission Books; Class: WO 116; Piece Number: 33. I can find no records of him arriving in England or leaving but can't find a death record (his last record was a second marriage in London in 1828).

Living in London I am assuming he was an out pensioner. Were records kept of payments? (so I can find addresses and when payments stopped). Can anyone suggest where I start researching pension further please?

Thx Paul

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe

I found an admission book 1823 (the recent webcast at Discovery on searching was helpful) on a wildcard for a typo - Josh Asquirra. he received 22 & 1/12 (farthing?) pence.
The last entry is 24/9/36 688883 which i assume is his death date - this is appears to be an index.
Still searching (not the easiest system).

Would anyone know if a register was kept each time he collected his pension and if an address was ever recorded please?
