Am having a lot of trouble identifying Arthur's family. His father George Kemp is recorded [1871 Hammersmith census] as a 'cabinet maker', born in London, Marylebone. This agrees with family lore, both my father and grandfather were 'good with wood'.
But George's possible father comes up, on the census return for St Pancras, Tottenham Court, 1851, as a Henry Kemp, born Leverton, Wiltshire, [now Berkshire], a 'cab proprietor' who has obviously moved to London. But I know of nothing Wiltshire about the Kemp side of the family.
Noticed there is also an 1841 census for Finsbury-Islington which has a George Kemp bc 1840-1, which is correct, but the father's name is JAMES Kemp, 'brickmaker', bc 1821. However, I can't confirm James because I can find no subsequent census with his name on it.
Can anyone help it identifying Arthur's grandfather please - was it Henry from Wiltshire of James from Islington? I suspect the latter.
