Edward Goodwin
« on: Saturday 13 June 20 12:29 BST (UK) »
Hello.
Edward Goodwin was my great grandfather, we know he married Roseann Tazaar on the 27th June 1881 (aged 21) in Glasgow. His parents are listed as John Goodwin and Catherine Ryan, who we think were born in Ireland but have searched for Edward's birth certificate but can not find any information
apart from the marriage  ???
Hopefully someone may be able to help. Thank you in advance  :)

Hi , welcome to RC  :)

What was Edward's occupation on the marriage certificate ?
Have you located him on the 1881 Census ?

There is 1901 census record of an Edward Goodwin b1860 in Glasgow with Rose Ann where there may be a typo as it says she is 29.  Seems like they have children Anne 20, Mary 18, Edward 14 and John 10.

He is a dock labourer and they are living at 126 Picadilly St

There is no image of the record on Ancestry just the transcript.

Scotlands People will have more infor but it is a site where you have to buy credits.  This comes up as a possible birth.

I had a look at the birth in 1859 in Milton -- the father was a James Goodwin and the mother Margaret (maiden surname looks like Durberry) so these parents are not the same as the ones given on the marriage certificate.

On the marriage cert both John the father and Catherine, the mother - are shown as deceased.

I notice the couple married as Roman Catholic.

That is a very interesting find Ev. Roseanne's father is the Lodging House Keeper.

Edward Martin is one of several lodgers. I wonder if it's simply an error on behalf of the Lodging House Keeper, who would have to supply all the names for the census - or whether there is some mystery going on.

It was not long before the couple would marry (if it's the same Edward of course) and he is definitely Goodwin on the certificate.
