History: Donegal to Coleraine migration stream? Why?
« on: Saturday 13 June 20 14:23 BST (UK) »
I have one line of my family tree (McSheffrey) which appears to have migrated from the Inishowen area to Coleraine.

From my knowledge Donegal to Coleraine is not and was not a common migration route. Usually Donegal people would more commonly move to Derry/Londonderry.

Was this a common migration route in the 1700’s? Or was it more likely to be a movement for marriage?

I am trying to establish why this odd move occurred, so I would appreciate if any local historians could give their opinion on this.

Thanks.
