I think B.P. on an OS map stands for Boundary pot or plate
Leicester / Northampton: Craxford,  Claypole, Pridmore, Pollard, Tansley, Crane, Tilley
Derby: Naylor, Ball, Haywood
Buckinghamshire: Cook
London: Craxford, Lane Crauford
Tyneside: Nessworthy, Simpson

It looks like the BP station was in front of the shops; this 2016 document is reversed - a mirror image:

This photo shows that the old Three Horse Shoes beerhouse building survived for quite a while into the 20th century, with the petrol station added to the east and garage buildings to the west. It was a very wide plot:

Hi Shaun

I think that probably answers my original question. If you have a look at the map I put in my original post, (C) becomes the Three Horseshoes and the letter (F) which becomes the Leather Bottle needs to be moved to the left of the Post Office - marked (A).

This then corresponds with the relationship given in the 1861 census (when George Dell was the licencee of the Three Horseshoes). The photographer was standing on the green looking north east.

(Actually, after cleaning the image up a bit in Photoshop, I think the original postcard was printed reversed. It does now match with the censuses and the map)
