« on: Sunday 14 June 20 22:50 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm looking for information on Michael j Kennedy, born on the 16th of April 1888 in Monivea, co Galway, ireland. We discovered is draft registration in Niagara Falls, New york 1917/1918. Would love to know if he has any descendants out there.
Thanks  :)

Can you post his mother's maiden name? Some US records include that, and it will make it easier to identify him.

--------------
He had a sister Annie in Albany:
Michael James Kennedy, 24, a laborer
from Liverpool, on the SS Baltic, arrived New York 13 October 1911

relative in Ireland: father, John Kennedy, Monivea, Athenry, Galway

headed to his sister, Annie Kennedy, Menands, Albany County, New York, 5 feet, 9 inches, black hair, brown eyes, born in Monivea

----------
For others helping with the search:
He was living with his mother Mary in 1901, and his passenger manifest says his father's name was John

He is not the Michael Kennedy, born 1888, who died In Montana in 1927. That man was born in Cloonkeely, Ireland, 15 or 18 June 1888.

His sister Annie
1920, Colonie, Albany County NY
Anna Kennedy, 30, single, arrived 1910, servant in household of William Sage

1930 Census, Colonie, Menands, Albany County, NY
Anna E Kennedy, age 40, single, servant in household of William Sage

---------
so it's not looking like she has descendants.

Annie returned to Ireland in her old age. She never married. She used to tell her grand nieces and nephews she was a gangsters moll in America. Was she joking with them or could there be any truth to it??  A servant in the sage house hold would be a respectable job. She must have been pulling their legs with that one  ;D ;D

I don't think she was a gangster's moll  ;).
In the 1900 Albany City Directory, William H Sage and his brother Dean were associated with the H W Sage Company of Albany. A local history book of Albany says it was in the lumber or timber business. I suspect it was founded by their father, H W Sage, who also turned up in the searches for them.
Here is William H Sage's tombstone

So she wasn't even a gangster's household servant. Good story though. :)

---------
Edit - that can't be his tombstone, because the man Annie worked for was still alive in 1930. But it probably is the family. Sorry.

P.S.
I thought Annie might have returned to Ireland, since I didn't see her in 1940.
And - If you don't find Michael James in the US, he might have gone to Canada. He was almost there in 1917, so he might have just kept on heading west.
I didn't find him with his mother's maiden name, so it might be hard to identify the right one.

Fantastic! Thanks so much. Loads of info. It's so interesting. I must check out Canada to see if Michael ended up there. Thank you for  that tip
