Lewis family of maesbury
« on: Monday 15 June 20 22:33 BST (UK) »
I am searching for information on the Lewis family from Pentremaes near Maesbury.
In November 1867 Mary Lewis (Spinster aged 18 years) daughter of David Lewis, General Labourer) married Henry Jones (Bachelor aged 24 years)-Farm Servant at The Old Chapel, Arthur Street, Oswestry. Witnesses were Cornelius Lewis and Hannah Lewis. Henry was my great grandfather. At the time of his marriage, Henry's father (also Henry) was shown as a deceased general labourer.
Any information would be gratefully received. I really don't know anything about Pentremaes

Have you looked for her on the 1871 census to establish her birthplace then checked the 1851/1861 censuses for her?  The only Mary Jones with husband Henry in Shropshire was b Oswestry 1848

You're welcome,

Another newspaper item, most likely your Cornelius (brother to Mary and witness at her marriage) as I notice on the 1861 census he is a carter.

"A Batch of Drunkards. - William Felton, labourer, David Williams, tailor, Owestry, Edward Morris, labourer, and Cornelius Lewis, waggoner to Mr Oswald Hurdleston, were severally fined various sums for being too fond of their beer. - Superintendent Gough stated that he had hard work to get the last named prisoner to the lock-up, and when he was there he tore a rug up and was very violent."

Hi,

I am also a descendant of David and Mary Lewis, through their son George, so am also interested in this information.
