Best Place for Revolutionary War Records
« on: Tuesday 16 June 20 06:20 BST (UK) »
Hello! So, I am doing some research into my ancestry and our participation in the Revolutionary War. I have traced back to two of my ancestors, my 7th great grandfathers Israel McBee and Captain Daniel Huddleston. The more I dig the more fascinating these two seem to get to read up on and I was curious if anyone had additional resources or databases you'd recommend for tracking records and stories on colonial ancestors. Apparently Israel McBee was one of the only Revolutionary veterans to also live to see the beginning of the Civil War, dying at the age of 110. I found one record that stated Captain Daniel Huddleston served under President Washington and reported to John Adams as well, working as a Captain of a ship in the colonials Navy. I would love to learn more about these stories if I can -- just don't know where to start beyond googling the names. Thank you again!

A copy of a letter I found that had been transcribed -- claiming to be Daniel writing to his brother regarding an encounter while serving for Washington. Would love to find more info about this correspondence, as well.

What databases have you used?

On Fold 3 I see 57 pages concerning the pension application of Israel McBee, including supporting evidence from a Samuel McBee.

If you are in the US, some libraries have home access to Fold 3 through their research databases.

My husbands ancestor was a loyalist so I was approaching the research from another angle but this site was very useful

Go to www.familysearch.org ---  If you haven't used it before, it is free, but you must sign up to be able to view some of the records.

Click on the search button, then go to BOOKS.  I put in McBee and came up with:

Colonial Families of the Southern States of America:  a History and Genealogy of Colonial Families who Settled in the Colonies  Prior to the Revolution

Image 333 of 705 or page 297 of the book has a section on the Huddleston Family
