Clutton United Methodist Church
« on: Wednesday 17 June 20 11:47 BST (UK) »
Long shot, this one.
I am looking for photographs of the United Methodist Church in Station Road Clutton. Built in 1863 and closed in 1933; subsequently demolished for the erection of a bungalow.
Known locally as The Chapel under the Tree.
On the 1904 OS 25" Map there is a Congregational Chapel shown, which was possibly next to the methodist Chapel, but no sign of the Methodist Chapel on that map unless I am looking in the wrong place!
All leads welcome, with my thanks in anticipation.

Have you tried searching for old photographs Clutton?

There is a Railway Hotel photograph which was presumably in the area you are looking for.

This map shows the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, near Clutton Brewery, and the Congregational Chapel

If you look under Clutton at http://www.churches-uk-ireland.org/somerset.html you will see a full description of the chapels in Clutton.

Stan and Millipede
Thanks for your responses.
The information which I have is from an undated but probably 1971 booklet by the local WI "The story of our Village  Clutton" but there is no indication as to precise addresses.

I think I can now get out a little bit more with the knowledge provided and have a scout around to see what I can find

Thanks
