William Grimshaw
« on: Wednesday 17 June 20 14:18 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anybody help in locating a baptism for a William Grimshaw, born in Sunderland c1813?

He married Jane Pickard in Yorkshire in 1837, before returning to Sunderland.

Many thanks

Sue

I know William also had a brother, John, born c 1812 in Sunderland - but no baptism that I can find.

Thanks again

Strangely - the 1841 has a 25yr old William Grimshaw occ grocer living in Durham - no wife though.  Can't see an 1841 entry with a wife Jane in Durham although dtr Elizabeth Jane was b 1840 Sunderland

EDIT

1851 - William was a grocer so that 1841 entry was him

Don't have a Worldwide Ancestry sub but he died 29.3.1900 and there is a Quaker published memorial on Ancestry for him.

Could be why you are having a problem finding his baptism if he was a Quaker

I know William also had a brother, John, born c 1812 in Sunderland

A tree on Ancestry has a John Grimshaw b 12.6.1811 Sunderland married to Emma Andrews in 1841

His parents are shown as William Grimshaw and Jane Wood.  John's baptism shows his father William as a grocer

John died 1856 & on the 1851 census he is also a grocer and his death reg shows him as a Quaker

two 'possibles" on Family Search
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VWZX-Q72
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FWF5-SZG

If you click on document info it gives an RG ref, but no images and I don't have access to these elsewhere

Which may turn out to be the same record (some non conformist registers seem to have a particular church record and a sort of regional, combined one)

and ancestry have a database of Quaker records (with images) which looks more promising
William GRIMSHARE born 12 Nov 1812, Bishopwearmouth, parents William, a grocer and Jane
:-)
EDIT Grimshare is how its transcribed, the image in unclear as the end of the name has been cut off
