Morton St. Clonmel - 1901/11 Census
« on: Wednesday 17 June 20 16:41 BST (UK) »
Hi - researching from Canada - had family members living on Morton St. in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, from approx. 1878 - 1900 (they then left for England).  I wanted to see who else was living on their street during the 1901 Census ... but can't seem to find it (nor in the 1911 Census) in the National Archives of Ireland web site.  Do you think it possible that Morton St. was excluded from the census-taking for some reason? (or is there somewhere else I should be looking?) Thanks!

I think the enumerator has actually written Morton Street but has a very poor 'M'.
Have a look at this.  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai003303699/
It has been mis-typed by NAI as Norton Street.

Morton Street in Clonmel is north of O'Connell Street/Parnell Street and close to the two main churches.

Thank you Rosie99 & Kiltaglassen ... you are indeed correct re: NORton (vs. MORton) street!!  I knew from the CLONMEL STREETS AND PLACES, PAST & PRESENT document that the Sisters of Charity had opened a girl's school on Morton Street ... and that is the first listing on NORton.  Thanks for your help.  I will try and contact the National Archives to let them know.  Hope you are all keeping safe on your side of the Atlantic!
