looking for siblings, parents of antonio anthony Suarez
« on: Thursday 18 June 20 14:15 BST (UK) »
Good morning,  I am desperate for help finding family of my gg grandfather.  Of the 16 gg grands he is the only one I can't find anything on.  We believe he was born in Cuba about 1811 and know he died in Jersey City NJ in 1861.  We also believe his first 4 children were born in Cuba (can't prove other than census records) We believe he was from a rich sugercane family and he was related to one of the governors of Cuba.  I paid over $1000. for research and got two unrelated documents.  Help where do I go for records.
Thanks in advance for any help
Susan

Civil registration did not start until 1883 I think or 1885. Catholicism was the main religion, most other denominations did not have a presence until much later than 1880. You could try the catholic baptisms, but none really online.  His name sounds Spanish, so I would imagine he may have been baptised in catholic Church if he was born on Cuba.

LDS Have films of the index of some parishes see for example Havana https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/228367?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Also in book format if you live anywhere near some of the following locations:
https://www.worldcat.org/title/alphabetical-index-of-the-parish-registers-of-habana-cuba-guanabacoa-marianao-la-habana/oclc/866161887&referer=brief_results

There are also other parishes that LDS have filmed : https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&placeId=326&query=%2Bplace%3ACuba

At the Guantanamo end - https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/724687?availability=Family%20History%20Library

This University based in UK has filmed many documents including some from Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa
(see page 37 of  https://eap.bl.uk/sites/default/files/legacy-eap/downloads/EAP843_survey.pdf )

They have a contact email address, although not sure how things are with covid 19 situation at the moment. See their project and coverage at https://eap.bl.uk/project/EAP843

You could write to individual parishes, but I'm not sure how complicated that is from especially from the US, unless you have contacts in the country who can do it.

Alternatively maybe look for birth notices in newspapers in his wife's hometown in US, if her family were notable there may be a mention of the births of her children.
