« on: Thursday 18 June 20 19:44 BST (UK) »
Hi, i`m looking for any information about my great grandfather Karl (Carl) Oskar Engman born 20.03.1870.I`ve heard a story that he was an Irish sailor who sailed to Finland with his Swedish wife.I haven`t found any finnish birth records for him.How can i find any information if he was born in Ireland?
Thank you in advance Hans Engman

Irish Genealogy has BMD but I'm getting no result for Engman.

Its free you just need to sigh in and prove your not a robot.

Shipping and crew lists is no help either

Bear in mind the spelling of the name may vary as it would be very unusual, it may be a good idea to try E*man

Hi Hans
What records do you have?
Do you know his wife's name and where she came from. I could perhaps look here in Sweden.

Ian

You don't happen to have a maiden name. Also when was their first child born in Finland?

I have found a Carl Engman, age 22, on board the vessel CAMPBELL official number 75866, in February 1881. His rank is given as AB (Able Bodied Seaman) and his place of birth was given as Sweden. His previous ship is given as JENNY B? (I cannot find a British or Empire vessel with this name.)
CAMPBELL sailed from London UK on 7/12/1880 and returned to that port 25/04/1881. Carl Engman signed on in New York, so it could be that JENNY B was a US flagged ship.

Carl is number 33 on the crew agreement. I don't know if this is the man you seek.

CAMPBELL was built in 1879 at Weymouth, Nova Scotia and she was registered at that port. Her tonnage was 1133 tons. She was classed as a Barque.
