You were lucky with the weather Forfarian.

A friend spent 2 days on the ferry outside Lerwick Harbour because it could not dock due to bad weather. He missed Up Helly Aa.

We have a friend who lives in Lerwick - born on Yell - and she sometimes cannot get down to Aberdeen for hospital treatment during the winter.

Whatever time of year you choose to go it is a wonderful place.

Don, Harry & Dorrie, thanks for info on The Royal Hotel & Shetland.

I will continue to follow up this family & time spent on Shetland. Looking forward to a visit in next year, probably during the summer months due to weather!
