NOW I have her Suz......for some reason "A" have mistranscribed her surname as AUTE, although it is correct on the register....not uncommon with this name.......

I am wondering if John Jay was maybe not British? Maybe Scandinavian??
Wonder if his daughter was named after his mother or a relative ?

If you get the marriage cert please let us know

Have you considered that the child is still probably living so you should remove their name from your post.  There is a possible remarriage for that child and in the same registration district a death for a John Jay but he is older than the one you are looking for. He is single in 1939.

Death Dec qtr 1980
John JAY
Birth 9 SEP 1891

Thanks for that.....post amended....I'm just wondering if Vera's nursing career took her to Taunton, and that's why they were married there ?......

I wondered that too - also wondered if John Jay was a patient -or maybe worked with her -or even in the armed forces

Please keep us posted with any new findings

It would seem that Vera, as well as being a nurse, was in some branch of the forces.....here she is in uniform,  although I can't make out what it is.....
