Are school records for Prestatyn available? (approx 1912-1921 )
« on: Saturday 20 June 20 18:55 BST (UK) »
My grandma went to school in Prestatyn, between 1912-1921 and I'm wondering how many schools there were during that time and if there any records available.

Thanks.

If they are anywhere it will be most likely Flintshire Archives. Try some searches here: http://calmview.flintshire.gov.uk/CalmView/Default.aspx?

Thanks for that. I did a search but can't see anything relevant. I guess I'm out of luck with this one.

Why not drop a line to the Archives to ask? They will have local knowledge and usually most helpful.

Not much help to you but here is what a School Record looks like for County Durham. The family emigrated to Pennsylvania but came back to England and arrived a few days before the outbreak of WW1. The death is not part of the School Record.

1921: Robert Thomas Bowes admitted to Shotton Colliery School 14 Nov 1921. (American, not part of the record) Birth Certificate provided. Born 27 NOV 1913.  Father William Bowes, 2 South View, Sherburn Colliery. Previous school Ludworth ( All County Durham). Last day of attendance at school 7 Feb 1928.  (Left qualified by age). Admission Registers Sherburn Colliery School, FHLF 1885429 Items 8-10. Birth certificate mentiomed above issued in Throop, Lakawana County, Pennsylvania, USA and probably not available yet. He was killed in a mining accident Sherburn Hill Colliery, County Durham, 16 November 1928.

There are a couple of mentions in the catalogue

http://calmview.flintshire.gov.uk/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=E%2fLB%2f50&pos=4

http://calmview.flintshire.gov.uk/CalmView/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=E%2fX%2f50&pos=5

The first one refers to Log books  and might have something but you'd have to contact them.
