Mary Jane Pritchard (Uprichard)
« on: Sunday 21 June 20 20:54 BST (UK) »
I have a family tree on ancestry.com (miles853)
I have another stumbling block on my family tree and wondering if a fresh set of eyes can unlock it.
Been at this line all day struggling to confirm if the new information I have found is correct or a different family,

I’m trying to trace the parents of both persons below

My GG Grandmother was Mary Jane Pritchard
Who was married to a Samuel Arlow
Dromore, County Down

What I can confirm as definite...............

They had 7 children with the following dates of birth

James.     1868
Charlotte 1870
Samuel    1872 (Great Grandfather)
John.       1874
Joseph.   1877
David      Bn   1879  died 1879
George    1881
Thomas. 1883
Sarah.     1885

From the Birth certificates of their children the family resided in
1868 - 1872 in Greenan, Dromore, County Down
1872 - 1885 in drumskee, Dromore, County Down
Samuel is marked up on all the kids certificates as being a weaver which does subsequently run in his family (children)

Possible Link............

After searching GRONI and other sources I can only find one marriage for both persons,
The curveball is that the surname for the bride was Uprichard And not Pritchard (Mary Jane)
I can’t find any other marriage with the names Pritchard or Uprichard around that era
The date of marriage was 22nd November 1867 in Donacloney, meeting hall, Presbyterian Church.
This gives Samuel’s dad as James Arlow - A weaver from Dromore and
Mary Jane Uprichard’s dad as John Uprichard - A weaver from Greenan, Dromore

Samuel and Mary from this marriage looked like they were based in Donacloney which isn’t too far from Dromore. From the 1901 and 1911 census it would put there years of births as
Samuel 1848 and Mary Jane 1847.

The issue I have is with the change or surname and as to whether this is the correct family (Donacloney)

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

1901:Census (Uprichard connection)
Daughter Sarah and Joseph both tie in date wise,
Only issue is son David. I have him born and deceased in the same year 1879 so wouldn’t appear on this census. Unless they had another son (David) that I’m not aware of born around 1883

Following entry for birth of my Great Grandfather Is correct
Name given for mother as Mary Jane Arlow (nee Pritchard)
It’s the same Mothers spelling ‘ Pritchard ‘ for all the other siblings

If you search for Mary jane Uprichard's grandfather, he may have used the surname "Bridgett." That was a common alternative name in Donaghcloney.

The residences of Samuel and Mary Jane were in the Parish of Dromore respectively. Samuel (likely) in Edentarry (sic) and Mary Jane in Greenan. Their fathers may be living elsewhere.
