Many thanks Oldohiohome and Shelleyesq, for your help.

I wasn't sure if he returned to Toronto or not.  I do have information of his early time in Canada.

His time in WW1 asa a Chaplain affected him a lot so I'm not surprised as to the news report.

I don't know about another relationship so could be right but have no information after 1933.  I do know that Mary did in fact die in 1984.

Also thank you Sandra, he could have died between these dates but I can't be sure.

Regarding Mary, it appears that she remarried and later died in 1987.  https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/109500912

Canadian Immigration Service
Report of Admissions and Rejections at the port of Boston
July 31, 1935
travelling on the SS Yarmouth
admitted to Canada

John Joseph Callan, age 45, divorced
resides: Boston, born: Kent, England, Episcopal religion,
had been in Canada 1910 to 1922, at Presque? Drive, Toronto
going to his daughter, Vivian? Isabel? Callan, 153 Bruce? Hill Ave, Toronto
nearest relative in US: son, John Desmond Callan, Blue Hill Farms, Readville, Mass
had been a chaplain during the war, 78th? Brigade ...,  retired from clergy, now au cond

On this sheet, there's something written by John's name that I can't really read, but part of it looks like "on O.T. 632648."  I don't know much about Canadian immigration, but maybe that means something?
