Still new to this - can you help me solve this pls?
« on: Monday 22 June 20 21:41 BST (UK) »
Am building family tree on Ancestry. I noticed other members have got an extra child born to the family and I wondered if you can help pls?

Here's what I THINK happened:

Father: Houghton Walpole b 1869 Forncett Norfolk.
Mother: harriet Howlett b 1872. Langmere.
married: 9 Feb 1986. Forncett.

1911 census has them listed as living in Tibbenham, Long Stratton: it says 9 children born alive, 7 survived.

Maud 14
Harris J - 12
Alfred - 10
Winifred H - 8
Harold H - 6
Leslie H - 5
Victor Nelson - 3

So Victor born 1908 if he was 3 in the 1911 census??

Other people's trees then have Harriet H born 1908 as well. Were they twins?

I also have a birth of Marion coming up ten years later to the same couple; can you guys confirm I have correctly thought this is the same couple having a baby ten year's after the others?

if anyone can help me with the birth years and death years and even marriages of these ancestors I would be so grateful - I am still new to this and although I am trying to follow advice and use FreeBMD and Family Search I am still getting mighty confused by it all! These are all long-lost cousins to our family so it would be fab to follow the lines down for each of these siblings, if anyone fancies helping.

They are not siblings as they have different mother's maiden names

James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

There's a parish baptismal record for Marion Lillian, daughter of Houghton and Harriet Pidgeon Walpole of Tibbenham. Baptised Dec 15th 1918.

Given the gap in the children, ending in 1918, I immediately wonder if the war was somehow involved (although Houghton looks somewhat too old to have been a soldier).

Which site is good to check mother's maiden names? Do you mean this forum, or another site?

There is a baby Ronald Born 1899 mmn Howlett and a death in 1900 for the same.
Alfred Ronald who was born 1901 was perhaps named after him.

You have to be registered with the site. It is free and easy.

Once registered login and there are a series of options

eg place an order (for a certificate)
view an order (eg to see when it may be dispatched)
     search the GRO indexes

Using search the Gro indexes you can search for birth or deaths for the years the site covers.
When you have selected search births or deaths it then is straight forward, the more information you can enter the better. Sometimes you will need to use a soundex for the names eg when names might have been misheard. Play around with it a bit and you will see its quite easy to use
