Thanks for all your replies, I'll update you on what I've got so far and I'll start with the birth certificate for Jane Snow first. Registration District: Bridgend and Cowbridge in the county of Glamorgan.
Born: 28 November 1847, Name and Surname of Father: William Snow. Name, Surname and Maiden Name of Mother: Mary Ann Snow formerly (which looks like) Thomas. Occupation of Father: Coker.
Signature, Description and of Informant: The Mark of Mary Ann Snow, Mother, Cefn Cribbwr. When Registered: 30 December 1847.
Now with the findings on Jane's siblings, namely Samuel Hasgood and William Oxford (which does sound like Hosgood) is it possible Jane's mothers maiden name may have been put down wrong? and this is in fact the correct birth certificate, do mistakes occur on the registrars part?
So in light of the birth certificate information I also have Jane's marriage certificate with information as follows: Marriage Solemnized At St David's Church in the Parish of Llanwonno in the County of Glamorgan. When Married: 25 December 1869. Names and Surname: Henry Lewis, Age: 21, Rank or Profession: Quarryman, Residence at Time of Marriage: Pontypridd, Fathers Name: Lewis Lewis, Rank or Profession of Father: Quarryman. Name and Surname: Jane Snow, Age: 21, Residence at Time of Marriage: Pontypridd, Fathers Name: William Snow, Rank or Profession of Father: Publican.
Census records in regards of Residence, Age, Fathers Occupation etc. as follows:
Jane's father, William Snow's census record for 1841: (Piece. 1421, Book. 5, Folio. 21, Page. eight) age 39 (b.1802), Residence: Cadoxton Neath (born in this county: No), Occupation: (not clear in image)
looks like TownInn but could also be Foundry.
Census Record 1851 (Piece. 2461, Folio. 746, Page Number. 11) Father William Snow born in Devonshire, Age: 47(b. 1804), Occupation: Fire Man. Jane Snow born in Tythegston, Glamorgan, Age: 3 (b. abt 1848), Residence Tythegston Higher, Bridgend.
By 1861(Piece. 4067, Folio 74, Page 3) Jane is a servant living in Aberdare aged 12 (b. 1849) her father William may be deceased and her mother Mary Ann is residing also in Aberdare with Janes Siblings(1861 Census Piece. 4068, Folio. 81, Page. 44) as head. Where Born: Aberdare.
1871(Piece: 5375, Folio. 11, Page. 16) Jane is living in Glyntaf, Pontypridd aged 21 (b.1850) with husband Henry Lewis and their daughter Mary Ann Lewis. Henry's occupation is Quarryman. I can't find a census record for Janes mother. Where Born: Neath, Glamorgan
1881(Piece: 5297, Folio 96, Page 25) Jane is living in Pwllgwaun, Pontypridd aged 33(b. 1848) with husband Henry Lewis, occupation: Stone Cutter and their children, one of whom is my great grandfather Tom Lewis. Where Born:Bridgend
1891(Piece 4417, Folio 107, Page 17) Jane is 42(b.1849) and living in Pontypridd. Where Born:Glamorgan
1901(Piece 5011, Folio 22, Page 35) Jane is 52(b. 1849) Where Born:Bridgend
1911(Piece 32318, Registration District Number 589, Ed, institution or vessel 26, Household schedule Number 172) Jane is 62(b. 1849) and living in Pontypridd, Where Born: Cefn Cribbwr, Bridgend.
So the conclusions are, I think, Jane was born in Bridgend between 1847 and 1850 to parents William Snow and Mary Ann probably Hosgood. All I can think is that the name thomas on the birth certificate is wrong or I have the wrong birth certificate. Hope you can help with finding out Janes correct birth details, thanks for listening.
