John Richards, of Nolton Haven - suicide on 14.8.1904 - burial place?
« on: Wednesday 24 June 20 19:23 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find the location of his burial; I know St Madoc's churchyard has some graves, also that there's a village cemetery, but I can't find an opening year for the cemetery.

John had been running the Mariners' Inn for his brother, after being invalided home from South Africa about two years earlier, suffering from pneumonia. He was aged 30.

His name, age, and approximate date of death are confirmed in the General Register Office records.

Yes, thank you, I'd read the report. That's how I found out about him - very sad to read. My interest in him is through his having served in the Boer War; so many men came back from South Africa with what we now call Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and very little of it is documented. Once I have his grave location, I'll add it to the list of graves of Boer War soldiers who came back to the UK and then felt they had no alternative but to end it all, or died of the effects of disease they contracted out there. Most of those graves are unrecorded, but I'm trying to locate some, and do as much travelling as I can so as to photograph and record them for posterity.

I'll contact the council. Thanks for your help.

He doesn't show up on deceasedonline, so I'll have to leave it until I'm in the area and can search the cemetery, and then the churchyard if necessary.
