Hi Bev,

That's an interesting website - not just for this search but for future reference too.
Thank you so much for posting it!

Hi Brinda.

I don't know if you have tried this site:

https://prov.vic.gov.au/explore-collection/explore-topic/passenger-records-and-immigration/unassisted-passenger-lists

If you type in Sydney in the search bar and put 1887 in the Filter bar it will bring up the names and ages of the passengers on the ship (the captain is named first).

It is difficult to get access to any records right now because we have just entered a six week lockdown due to COVID-19 and they won't allow anyone into the building. I had a conversation with one of the staff when I was last there in April and they are apparently working towards making access to all record available online, but the virus has hindered progress.

I hope that helps.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Thank you so much for your helpful suggestions!

I did originally go to that website and I found the person's name listed along with the ship's name and date and some other related information but I was hoping to find a scan of the actual manifest. Honestly, being relatively new to this I had no idea if that was even a realistic expectation. However, another helpful poster linked to the actual manifest scans on the Family Search page - so I was able to see the actual manifest scans after all.

But your post caused me to take another look at the website. And, guess what? I found another person's passage I was looking for (same family)! So perhaps they may have added more information since I last checked? Or maybe I just varied my search a bit? Anyway, your post led me to it.

Plus, it's nice to hear an update from a person who has talked to the staff directly. I certainly understand their current limitations. Fingers crossed, they'll get more records online soon.

So thank you again for your note.
Best regards,
Brinda
