George H Kirtland was my great uncle. He had his own horse drawn cab buisiness, his mother’s left him the tack and a carriage from the family business when she died in 1917.
There is a family story that George took ‘the Prince’ back to the castle from a pub that was due to be raided by the police. My third cousin says that he had a job in the castle ‘ that was somthing to do with the keys’ she wrote to people at the castle who say that they have no record of it. I find that a bit odd, I have a letter from a long dead relative that states that George lived in a lovely house in the park. Possibly when son George was born in Slough/Eton.
