Hi
Well I admit that I do not know what happened to the "other" Mercy.
But I think so. One was born Mercy Pearce, and the other Mercy married a Pearce (Henry).
I am sorry that it isn't helping you with the problem. It wasn't my intention!
John

married to Benjamin Wilson in 1867

they had 3 children: Alice Elizabeth 1869, Thomas Benjamin 1871 and Ellen 1874.

1911 Higham Kent, on the census is says that she had 5 children of which 4 have died.

who were the other 2 children ?

Possibly Daisy is one of them ?

died 1918 (just 7 months after Mary Ann Draper...)

Could Ellen have been a twin?

So I don't think she married  Henry Pearce.
she was still married to benjamin Wilson. but in 1901 she said she was a widow and from Canterbury. So she did not tell the truth a lot.
Married, a widow, from Higham, from Canterbury, etc.

very interesting case, and very complicated.

2 questions still to be answered: when and where were her 2 other children born (was Daisy one of them ?)

where was she censuses 1881 and 1891

Just posting for info. on the 1871 census her name is noted as Mary

jonw65 it's ok, no worries. thanks anyway

lady hawk: I know about Thomas and Ellen, not Sarah. Could well be her twinsister. thank you

Then we would have Alice, Thomas, Ellen and Sarah. The question is when and where was the 5th child born. And which child was alive census 1911.
Thomas not
Sarah Not
No clue if Alice or Ellen was alive. Will have to look into that.
I wonder if Mercy was telling the truth about 5 children of which 4 had died by 1911....

well well,

going through my paper copies of the censuses I have, I saw that on the census 1911 Benjamin says he had 4 children (that would be Alice, Thomas, Ellen and .... Sarah ?) of which just 1 was alive in 1911.
So that would support the idea of Ellen having a twinsister.

That would also mean that Mercy had a fifth child, but obviously not with Benjamin !

Hi,
Mercy is my Gr. GrandAunt, and I have never been able to find her in the 1881/1891/1901 census, I am sure the Mercy with daughter Daisy are not the same people, I don’t think there is any reason  to think that Mercy was in the Strood Union for anything other than being very ill before her death.

Regards
Mike
