Dr Edward Goodrich Acheson who discovered Carborundum

American inventor who discovered the abrasive Carborundum and perfected a method for making graphite.  I am researching a friend's family tree and was wondering if there was an Obit or Will out there  I could look at that might lead to other family members. I am interested in Margaret Cecelia Maher some  sites says she is from Wales but I can't find her also at a lost for Raymond Maher Acheson I can find who he married Gloria Bernice Leonard but I believe the had children. Many thanks for any help especially the Obits

Have you checked US censuses for info about the other people you mention?

Margaret does seem to be a bit inconsistent about her birthplace on censuses and other records - sometimes Wales, sometimes New York, occasionally England, often giving her parents as from Ireland.

In 1915 when applying for a passport she stated that she was born 11 May 1861 in "the north of Wales" (was unsure of where).

Many references say they married in New York in 1884 but I can't see an actual marriage record - anyone else having any luck there?

Graphite was mined in Borrowdale, Cumbria & also Lanarkshire. China a big producer.

Thank you all for the information I haven't seen the tree on Ancestry - I don't have worldwide unfortunately.  Thank you for the Obits. My friend is related to Frances Offen she was her great aunt and Frances married George Wilson Acheson - whose dad was Edward Goodrich Acheson. Thank you all so much
