I just came across this case in Common Pleas, in 1566, Easter term.

http://aalt.law.uh.edu/AALT5/Eliz/CP40no1244/aCP40no1244fronts/IMG_0789.htm
Essex. Thomas Quylter, of Hyghe Ester, senior, husbandman, & George Quylter, of Hyghe Ester, husbandman, attached to respond to Thomas Quylter, junior, for trespass breach of a close and house belonging to Thomas Quylter junior at High Ester and trampling hay (herba) worth ten pounds.

This probably has to do with the lawsuit mentioned earlier. There are several parcels of land mentioned, one of them a messuage and 24 acres of arable land and meadow called Caleis, which was mentioned above. Thomas senior and Thomas junior are not necessarily father and son but could be older and younger cousins.

Hello,
Thanks very much for the further info. I have managed to trace the Quilter line in Essex back to Abraham Quilter in the mid-1600s but cannot find the link from him back to the 1500s, 1400s etc.
Thanks again.

I think I would agree with you about leaving the Kent connection. I see the on line trees have his father dying in Barham, Kent in 1552, also without sources. The Barham burial register on FindMyPast starts in 1558.

There are quite a lot of wills for Quilter/Quylter in Essex, more than a dozen from 1550 to 1700. Most of these can be viewed online with a subscription.

Also a couple PCC wills in Essex. These can be downloaded for free (upon signing in) from TNA Discovery.
