Solicitor Hugh J Urquhart, late of Torrington Square, was arrested in Wiesbaden in possession of £3,000 - of which £1,400 was rightfully the property of a Mrs Gabriel having been left to her in the will of a friend of Urquhart’s and entrusted to Urquhart.

Charges (of theft) were laid at Bow Street, but formally remanded after Urquhart expressed an intention to refund the money.

The Globe, 11 September 1884.

There is a marriage on 4 April 1908 in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Francis Charles Urquhart (born abt. 1885 England) married Verna Velzora Leavitt.
Francis' parents are Hugh J Urquhart and Mary T Montgomery (the Canadian wife?)

GRO Index has this birth

Suz, thanks so much for your help!
I am a bit confused now.  I found Mary Leonora Urquhart on the 1881 census with parents Edward (sic) B. Reeves 39 and Eliza Reeves 36 plus four younger Reeves children, ages 2 to 8, all b. Kensington.  Mary Leonora is b. Holloway.
Edward (think this should be Edmund) was b. Cork, Ireland and Eliza in "Edinboro".
I found a birth listing for Mary Leonora on FreeBMD for Mar 1863 which matches her age on the 1881 of 18.  Strangely, I cannot find this listing on the GRO site!
London Marriages on Ancestry have a marriage of Edmund Burke Reeves to Eliza Urquhart, spinster, dau. of William, in St. Pancras, 27 Dec 1863.
Mary Leonora's second son with John Metcalfe Pollard was named Edmund.
I am trying to figure out where Hugh Urquhart fits in!

I checked the birth registration for Hugh Maitland Reeves, Found on the 1881 census, see above, the son of Edmund Burke Reeves and Eliza Urquhart...mmn is given as Urquhart.

It is looking as though Eliza lied on her 1868 marriage to Edmund when she claimed to be a spinster - perhaps because she was in fact still lawfully married to Hugh Urquhart.

On the birth registration index (GRO) the maiden name listed for the six Reeves children born by 1881 ( one died early) the mother’s maiden name is Urquhart, not Banks, if she had been married to Hugh Urquhart, her maiden name would have been Banks.

This one's a bit long but wanted to include details that might ring a bell.

Trying to find out what happened to Mary Leonora Urquhart Davies Pollard (divorced wife of William Knowles Davies and wife of John Metcalfe Pollard), whereabouts unknown after ca 1893.

In the divorce records on Ancestry, Mary Leonora and William Knowles Davies’s marriage certificate is provided – it gives Hugh J. Urquhart as her father, deceased, gentleman: wonder whom he might be!

Havent traced Mary Leonora after 1893 but there is a parish baptism record for Mary leonora Urquhart on 10 Mar 1867 Camden which gives her d.o.b. as 9 Feb 1863 Parents Hugh John & Eliza Urquhart address 53 Gloucester Crescent Regent's Park father's occupation Solicitor

there is a tree online which gives marriage 1859 Holburn of Hugh John Urquhart and Eliza Banks
Hugh John Urquhart b 1835 Kendall Westmorland and his death 1863 July Poplar

will check these dates and be back soon

Suz

Hmm...found a birth announcement for Edward Burke Reeves and Eliza’s first son, Edward, who died young, they are living at Gloucester Crescent, Regent’s Park!
This is really confusing.
Also found a reference to Edmund being a shipsbroker, and possible bankruptcy in 1877.
