When a marriage says "of Hellingly" that simply means where he is residing at the time, and where the banns will be called.

Doesn't mean he was born there ;D

Would you check the dates please, and the locations - Laughton is a different parish to Chiddingly.  And it would have been illegal for Ann to marry at age 10!

It is possible that Ann Vine daughter of Thomas & Mary baptised in Chiddingly in 1662 was buried in Laughton in 1665  :(

So you are possibly looking for another Ann Vine.

She might be the daughter of Richard Vine baptised at St John sub Castro in Lewes 7 Nov 1647.  That would fit much better with a 1673 marriage - and even better it might be in her own native parish.

Sorry - looks like that one died soon after birth  :(

This is a difficult period for English parish registers due to the civil war - not all events were recorded.

Many thanks to you both.
I am aware that Hellingly may not be where he was born at all.
And yes I had thought she was rather young, I think 12 was the age at that time.

Clearly need to find another marriage....  and birth etc.

Thanks for your help.

Blimey the sun has appeared.

What I really need to find then is
the birth of William, somewhere I saw that he was born in Sussex, but of course coulld have been Surrey.
William Easton husband of Elizabeth Snatchall
b.1678C Worth, Sussex, Eng.
m.1701 May 22 Elizabeth Snatchall of St Nicholas, Charlwood Parish, Surrey, William (Wm Eson) of Ifield Parish, Sussex, Eng.
Campbell, McKenzie, Ross, MacKay, Munro, Sutherland all of Ross & Comarty
Barry, Gibson, Watson, Summers, Edmonstone, Brock, McCartney all of Glasgow and environs

The marriage licence for James and Ann in 1673 may provide a clue worth following.  The other bondsman is named as John Eston of Wartling.  Ann's parish of residence is recorded as Laughton.

So perhaps pursue Vine families in Laughton - maybe reconstruct the family groups, look at wills if any exist.  I don't know what gaps there might be in the register.

No sign of William's baptism in Worth.  :-\

Interestingly there is a baptism of a John Eason son of Richard Eason in Ifield 9 March 1672/73, but no William.  There is a gap in the transcriptions between 1653 and 1670 with one isolated baptism in 1662.

Thanks for that I now think I have made a big big mistake so I am trying to ensure I know exactly where William was born.  I think his parents were John (of Battle) and Anne (Fuller a widow).

It is still raining we might have to build the ark.
