Thanks jonw65.

You're welcome :)
A bit more, the Manor of Beeding is mentioned.
And some records of it are on FamilySearch
Court book, 1736-1851(to page 275) (includes index), on MF 2357388 (Item 16), DGS 8310036

We could do with MF 2357389 as well, but no camera icon :(

Index is here
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSRG-TWM9-J?i=729&cat=1265167

There are quite a number of entries for Terrell, up to p87.
I would consider downloading them via their image viewer

Exciting!

There is one in the PCC
Will of Richard Terrell, Miller of Cowfold, Sussex
27 April 1731
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D664203

Free on TNA, and is also on ancestry.

Thanks johnw65

I'm looking at some other wills on there now so I'll download this and take a look at it.

I'll post a summary tomorrow.

Matt

Just been reading the will and spotted that myself. Definitely getting somewhere I think.

Many thanks for this.

This will is definitely getting us somewhere I feel.

In it he mentions "Joseph TERRY son of my brother" and later on mentions his brother "Joseph and John TERRY" yet at the start he refers to himself as Richard Terrell and signs as "Terrell".

I'm starting to wonder of the spelling was used interchangeably. Either that or did Terrell somehow get corrupted to Terry in some area and at some point? Was "Terri" heard and simply written as "Terry"? Or is it a case of someone simply misreading what was written?

Either way I agree there is certainly a link here. I'll see if I can find out any more about Richard or his brothers tomorrow.
