Birth Record for George Horne born between 1796-1798 Yarmouth Kent
« on: Wednesday 01 July 20 14:07 BST (UK) »
Looking for the birth record or baptism record of a George Horne born somewhere between 1796 - 1798 in Yarmouth Kent England.

Have a ticket of leave that says he was born 1797 and native place Kent.
Have a certificate of freedom that says he was born 1797.

He was a convict sent to Australia sentenced 14 years on 29 March 1819 in Surrey. On his convict record it says he was 23 years old in 1819 which makes him born 1796.

He travelled on the convict ship Recovery to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. He eventually married Elizabeth Partridge in 1829 and had 10 kids.

Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Hi

You have posted on the Norfolk boards.   What document gives his place of birth as Yarmouth, which is in Norfolk.

I can see a Ticket of Leave which gives native place as Norfolk and a Certificate of Freedom which gives native place as Yarmouth , which is in Norfolk , no mention of Kent anywhere that  I can see.

Hi there were no parents on his death certificate. I cannot find a document that says Kent anywhere either seems this is what I have written on ancestry obviously a mistake.. just starting family history after a few years off.

He is going to be hard to find Horn/Horne is a very common name in Norfolk

1815 Yarmouth Assizes George Horn not guilty of larceny
Lent 1816 Norfolk Assizes George Horn 2 months for larceny
January 1818 Norfolk Assizes George Horn 28 days larceny
October 1818 Norfolk Assizes George Horn larceny 7 years and transportation** who is this one?

There is another George Horne who gets transported 1819 on the John Barry who is a seaman from Norfolk

The 2 Surrey cases
Lent 1819 George Horne Highway Robbery death (may have been commuted to transportation)

George Horne Forged Bank note 14 years. Is this your George Horne, but what was a Norfolk man doing in Surrey?

The Yarmouth entry could be for either man really one being a seaman and the other a house painter, but your chap mentions Yarmouth at one point so this could be his first offense.

Thanks very much Amondg
As far as the documents I have he was the one who forged the bank note and got 14 years. I have no idea how far Norfolk from Surrey is. It says Native place Yarmouth on his certificate of freedom and native place: norfolk on his ticket of leave. I'm in Australia so not too familiar with England but I'll look on google maps :)

I don't have access to newspapers but perhaps some other rootschat contributor can look and see if any of the escapades of the George Horn/Horne in Norfolk made the papers.
The Norfolk Chronicle might be a good start, beginning 1814 and ending 1819 maybe we can get some clues to parents.
