James Rigby born circa 1813 Wigan
« on: Thursday 02 July 20 10:56 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help.  James Rigby was baptised in Wigan on 02 October 1813 in All Saints Church Wigan to William Rigby (weaver) and Jane Aspinall.  He married Elizabeth (I have not been able to find a surname) according to the 1851 census was born in Wigan circa 1825.  I think Elizabeth died age 30 circa 19 Jan 1854 in Hindley.  After the 1851 census I can't find him or his son Joseph who was born 10 May 1847 in Whelly, Wigan.  I have no problem with Joseph and his family but I am really struggling with James.  Any help will be appreciated.
Many thanks

Sorry about the death of Elizabeth it is incorrect as I have just found her on the 1891 census.

You say that Joseph Rigby was born 10 May 1847 - where have you got the date from?

There is a birth registration in Wigan - June quarter 1847 - Joseph Rigby - mmn = Hague

There is a marriage registration in Wigan - March 1845 - where James Rigby and Elizabeth Hague appear on the same page.

LancashireBMD say that this marriage was at St Wilfred, Standish.  BUT James' father given as Edward

OK, found the image on Ancestry, plus Elizabeth's burial at Hindley.

The only Joseph Rigby born and registered in Wigan in 1847 has the mother’s maiden name as Hague.

There are a number of James Rigby  born around 1815 how do you know that the baptism posted is correct? Once you have the marriage certificate that will give his father’s name which will give the evidence of whether you have the correct baptism.

In the 1851 census when James is 35 it was interesting that there were three Rigby siblings William, Ann and Ellen all born in the 1780s I wondered if they could possible be your James’ uncle and aunts?

Thanks I will await the cert.  There is however an Elizabeth Hague born 21 September 1823 to Joseph and Ellen Hague in Wigan.  I'll let you know when I get the cert.
