It states that she is the illegitimate daughter of Eliza and Elizas occ is Servant

Is she the Mary Ellen Cook age 7 visitor to Cook family the wife of which was Rebecca Flowers?

A family tree says that Mary Ellen names her father as James Perry when she marries but mother Eliza Clarke and that when mother married she claimed to be called Perry and was a widow but no evidence she was.

So that kind of clears the background up a bit.

Hi

Many thanks for trying to sort this out there is such a lot to unscramble so your help is very much appreciated.I have since had a message from my distant relative who I have only been in touch the last couple of days by email and she has now told me on my Grandmothers marriage cert her fathers name was JOSEPH Perry I have asked her for all the details of the certificate as that is another problem to check out. I have not recd it yet.Who said family history was easy?

Perhaps your relative would be kind enough to scan you a copy of the certificate then you could share it with us and we could look for more evidence of Mr Perry.

Clearly the child was born before any marriage took place as her baptism shows.

Just found a copy of the marriage online 27 Jan 1881 (transcribed as Lerry)

father down as Joseph Perry soldier

Another tree has Joseph born 1842 Hampshire and in workhouse 1851 and 1901 - no entries for census in between.

Maybe he was transient as a soldier - if this is he  :-\

 Many thanks yes I recd a copy this morning of Mary Ellinor Perry to James  Eames Avender 27 January 1881 Farnborough Southampton.
 Mary aged 18 Spinster James 24 batchelor.Mary a servant James a soldier North camp. James father George Avender brick builder.Joseph Perry a soldier.
James signed and Mary signed using Elen (which we knew her as ) Perry.Elizabeth Clarke was a witness the other witness is very unclear.
