kathleen married Leslie Sutton in 1934.  Percy Samuel Newton is given as her father on the cert.  Kathleen left this marriage in the 1940s and had a relationship leading to one child (living) but did not remarry.  Her death cert , in the name of Sutton, does not give a maiden name. Her dob on death cert is 28 April 1910, Oldham. I do not think she had any siblings.

If she had been born in the USA I would have thought this would be a memorable fact to her.
Could she have been adopted?

It's quite possible she was adopted as they had no living children
when they returned from the USA.

In the documentation given to me by my neighbour is a short form of birth certificate for the OTHER Kathleen - Kathleen May Jamison, born Chorlton, Manchester in the census in 1911.

I assumed, and I know I shouldn't, that this was obtained incorrectly by Kathleen Sutton (in 1959) as the dob is 28 April 1910 and I just thought that it was a coincidence that the girls shared the same name and dob.

Could this be my Kathleen May (Newton)? Adopted/taken in by Mary and Percy? I don't have any other documentation to prove this.

GRO has no mothers maiden name for Kathleen May Jamison which would normally indicate that she was illegitimate.  I think it is probably your 'Kathleen May'
