Christman James Smith
« on: Friday 03 July 20 16:51 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I wonder if anybody can add a bit more info on the attached death register entry from a Tower Hamlets death register of 1886.

I'm interested in Christman James Smith (last line on the attached).

The name and place of death are clear to me but there are a few things I don't understand:
1. What is the relevance of the no.1 under "class"? All entries around it simply have a dot.
2. What is the relevance of the no. 4 under "hour"? All entries are same.
3. Is the ref. under "No." (C855) and is that the number I would need to be able to obtain the death certificate and if so where would that certificate be held?

Look forward more learned input than I can manage.  ;D ;D

Regards

The snip you have shown isn't from a death register, it's from a burial register at Tower Hamlets Cemetery.

As Rosie says, in order to get the death certificate you must use the reference on the GRO website.
I suspect the numbers on the register you've shown are the Section and Plot numbers of the burials.

Brilliant thanks rosie99 and JenB - And such quick responses I will move forward now.

He is the son of my GGGF who I am trying to track down after having given up some time ago so I hope the death cert. will add to my knowledge of him.

Thanks again
