Hmm is this strange?
« on: Saturday 04 July 20 17:02 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I was looking for information on my relative, Wilfred Oakes, a while ago.

My nana (his daughter), has just brought him up again and we've realised some weird things!

Wilfred married Doris Walklate in 1947, Northwich area, but there is hardly anything online to confirm this? I've just ordered there marriage certificate (hopefully it's theres), but it's very hard to find online! Myheritage? Freebmd?

Also, Wilfred died in Middlewich, he drowned in the local canal and was found by a dog walker. The case is still open and he died in 1977, for such a small village, this is BIG news and we'd of thought it would be in the papers? But we can't find anything for that either? We don't know if he was pushed in or if he fell in or if he jumped in..

It just seems very strange to me!

Thank you in advance if anyone can help :)

Unfortunately you are not likely to find too much information on-line - especially mid-late 1900's - due to 100 year closure.  The marriage was a civil marriage.  AND I'm very sure that the inhabitants of Middlewich would be most upset to be termed "a small village"  :)  I certainly never thought of it as such when I lived in the area until the 1960's!

Newspaper reports - perhaps Northwich Chronicle/Chester Chronicle/Winsford and Middlewich Guardian - but again it is fairly recent  :-\

Added:  Well done, Kay99  :)
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Perhaps his death certificate would be a good idea, might tell you if there had been an inquest

Blimey where is that? Is there a link for it? I've tried to type in the exact info on google and nothing is coming up!
