Please help – identify this coat of arms
« on: Monday 06 July 20 06:07 BST (UK) »
Hello.
Please help me. I found the old book (1895) («The woman who did»)
The cover have this image. Some coat of arms and: honi soit qui mal y pense
Perhaps someone will recognize or identify this coat of arms.
With respect.

Hi
Does this help?
Ray
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honi_soit_qui_mal_y_pense

Thank you so much. Yes, I saw it.
I'm more interested in the coat of arms inside - lions and a tree.
Is it possible to establish to whom all this belonged

Could it be "A poplar tree between two lions rampant combatant"?

Certainly the lions are combatant - though whether it is a poplar tree is anyone's guess!

Thank you so much! I didn’t even think that it could be a wheatsheaf

Rampant describes the fact that the lions are standing up - combatant means they are looking at each other.

I have just looked through Papworth's Ordinary of British Amorials that can be searched by "2 lions" and haven't been able to find anything that describes exactly what I see here.

There are however lots of examples of lions in this pose, but with a tower or castle between them - or simply nothing between them.

The suggestion I made earlier "A poplar tree between two lions (rampant) combatant" is in Burke's General Armory under Gandolphi, of Richmond, Surrey:
https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=Ur5VAAAAcAAJ&pg=RA1-PT374&lpg=RA1-PT374&dq=A+poplar+tree+between+two+lions+combatant&source=bl&ots=b9aofy72y1&sig=ACfU3U3UwTVfNFhGTMl-diPbYLTdH4Dq_g&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjHuNS56LjqAhXzThUIHVYYAA0Q6AEwAHoECAkQAQ#v=onepage&q=A%20poplar%20tree%20between%20two%20lions%20combatant&f=false

Perhaps you would have more success if you repost on the Heraldry Board (but include a link to this thread).
