Post viral effects
« on: Monday 06 July 20 12:02 BST (UK) »
There are suggestions that one in ten people are suffering from post viral effects of covid19, often those who did not have serious effects at the time. My daughter is one of these, and she knows of some others locally who had the virus early on, and are now suffering from relapses if they do too much, and all sorts of random side effects. There does not seem to be much publicity warning about this, though it can be found on the internet.

A long, detailed article from the "I" newspaper, 9th June with links.
"Coronavirus: One in ten are suffering post viral effects which will be 'a big problem' say experts":
"One in ten have symptoms after 3 weeks and some may suffer for months say researchers who designed Covid Symptom Study App"

There's a Facebook group Long Covid Support Group. It was created as Covid-19 Support Group #covid1in20 two months ago and changed its' title a week ago.

My daughter is on some of the Facebook groups, and is signed up to the symptom checker ap. It is just one more thing to worry about.

Michael Rosen spoke movingly on the Today Programme recently about his illness which started in early March, about his stay in the ICU, his subsequent return home, and the fact that his legs felt like 'cardboard tubes filled with porridge'.

I know he's not a 'long term sufferer' as yet - let's hope as few people as possible have these horrible long term effects - but it's a salutary reminder when a lot of people seem to think you emerge from a coma, are clapped out of hospital, and immediately return to full health.

Michael Rosen has also spoken about his adventures with his Sticky McStick, which I am sure are less amusing than he makes it sound.

Very sorry to hear about your daughter's continuing illness, T-o-t-h.  Please wish her better.

I hope your daughter has a full recovery!

I had (non-Covid) pneumonia in April 2019 and it took at least 12 weeks for me to start to feel like I was on my way back to normal. I had been quite ill but hadn't needed to be hospitalized -- even so, I couldn't believe how horrible I felt and how long it took to recover.

My sympathies go out to anyone who has been sick from Covid-19 and is experiencing a long (and possibly complicated) recovery.

Regards,
Josephine

Thank you for your good wishes. She is just going to need to be very careful about over-doing things.

Hi

I hope all are keeping safe.

The NHS are incredibly brave caring professionals, mine today looked liked a Nuclear Scientist from Porton Down. I was escorted in and out of the building with strict protocol by 'phone and they were all very kind

I've been informed I have Long Covid.

I'm resting and keeping warm at home, drinking plenty of non-alcoholic fluids.

We'll continue staying home as much as possible.

Best wishes, Mark
