Elizabeth Catton

Kia ora from NZ, my 5th great grandfather Benjamin Potter married Elizabeth Catton in Itchingfield Sussex 1763. I can't find out anything about her. I hope someone can help. I thought her surname may have been mistranscribed from Caffyn but can't find any evidence of ElizabethCaffn either

Hi
Welcome to Rootschat.

Parish register
I am afraid that the microfilm cameraman had a fail with the page in question and did not film it again :(

BT
26 May 1763
Benjamin Potter of Warnham + Elizabeth Caffin of Itchingfield
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-D1M3-37N?i=708&cat=581068

Sussex Marriage Index says the same and that the marriage was by licence.
Benjamin and Elizabeth both single.

FreeReg has gone for Elizabeth Catton. I fear they are wrong.
The names of the witnesses are very hard to read on that microfilm image, the transcriber has had a stab at one of them being Matthew Caffyn.
Could be right!
John

thank you so very much, this has had me stumped for days & its been very frustrating. I have  whole new line of inquiry now. I still can't find any evidence of Elizabeth Caffin's birth, unfortunately. It's very late at night here in NZ so I'll start afresh tomorrow. Thanks once again for your help
