Shared matches MyHeritage
« on: Tuesday 07 July 20 11:32 BST (UK) »
My brain has turned to mush recently. I can't quite work something out.

I asked a third cousin if she would test. She tested at MyHeritage as it was considerably cheaper than Ancestry at the time.

Amongst our shared matches there is another person from the same line, a third cousin once removed.

When I compare chromosomes, there is not a single matching one.
3C matches on chromosomes 2, 6, 8 and 12.
3C1R matches on 1, 5, 9 and 21.

How does MyHeritage work out that we are shared matches? I'm sure the answer must be staring me in the face! With these two results, it could be worth looking at the other shared matches, or may be not.

I think you're confusing shared matches with Triangulation. You and your 3rd cousin both match with 3CR but not on the same chromosomes.

I've just run a chromosome match with 3 cousins from the same line. They are all  in the shared matches list . One is a 1C1R ,one  is a 2C and one 3C.

The chromosome browser, one to many,  shows no matching segments and only one of same chromosome but not overlapping.

Thanks for that, Gadget!

I knew there would be a simple explanation.
