Is there anywhere you can view birth records online for Northern Ireland in the 1930's?
Thanks

You can view birth records later than 1920, on-line at either the search room of the General Register Office (GRONI) in Belfast or the computers in the search room of the Public Records Office (PRONI) in Belfast also.

The 100 year rule currently applies for birth records available on websites.

Note that both search rooms are currently closed due to the lockdown over COVID-19.

Looking for help to find John & Jane (Something) Davidson's marriage record or the birth records for their children Mary abt. (1808), Sarah abt. (1809), James abt. (1812), William Judson abt. (1816), Lucy abt. (1818), John abt. (1822) and Eleanor abt. (1823).

John Davidson (1782-) immigrated to Canada in 1826, at 44 years of age, with wife Jane (1782) and the above mentioned 7 children from Fermanagh, Ireland.

Funny if her last name was actually Something!

Religion is Church of England (on their childrens records)

The births are all long before the start of statutory birth registration in Ireland (1864) so you won’t find birth certificates for these children, nor a statutory marriage record for their parents.

Prior to 1864 we rely on church records, where they exist. Not all parishes have records for the period you need, so it may be challenging to research this family. A key thing to know is what denomination the family were. Do you know?

Davidson/Davison is not a common surname in Fermanagh. In the 1901 census there were just 4, a mix of  Presbyterian, Church of Ireland and RC.  3 weren’t born in Fermanagh at all with just one (Church of Ireland) born in the county.

MacLysaght’s “The Surnames of Ireland” says that Davidson was: ”The name of a Scottish clan numerous in north east Ulster. Davison & Davie are branches of that clan.”  So your family possibly originated in Scotland and were moved to Ireland in the 1600s. Probably a Border Reiver name, indicating they came from the Scottish borders (as did half the population of Co. Fermanagh).
