bit further away than I'd searched earlier

John Allen june qtr 1879 Knighton vol 11b pg 251 with Sarah Ann Ford on the same page

Think the 1881 you have in Llantwitfardre is the right one. Occupation is fitter Park Iron Works. Sarah Ann's birthplace is  interesting.
1881 Brynamman, Carmarthenshire
1891 Brynmawr, Breconshire
1901 Brynmawr
1911 Brixton Hill, London
well, they all begin with B   ::)

Awh thank you. Must start knocking a few years off my age. Ha ha. Thomas/Saunders side have alway been mysterious. My grandfather had shell shock during World War 2 and he always said he was one of the first to have electric shock treatment in Maindiff Court... cant find him in any war records
Thank you so very much for your time

if you're using Ancestry, it's probably a different John Allen born in Leicestershire. No sign of this one having been in the army.

If there's a difference in ages for a couple, it's quite common to see a few years going astray especially if the wife is older than the husband.

I gave you that ref in the top reply on this page.

Just ignore those Ancestry hints. Or take with a pound rather than a pinch of salt.
