Nurse child
« on: Wednesday 08 July 20 00:31 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,

While looking into my family I have found a record for someone living in my house as a "nurse child" which ive come to find that its like a forest family type situation.

my question is does anyone know of any public records that would show a paper trail and somewhere I could find information on why she was put with the family.

Her name is Clara Whitley and was in the 1881 census at 11 years old
she wasn't in the 1871 or 1891 census with my family.

My grandma was down as a boarder age 1 later as adopted child tho there was no official adoption at the time.

Only way to find why would be to identify her parents
Possibly a single mother .find her on preceding censuses find who the child was living with in earlier census

Maybe see if their are any records of application of poor relief
Or a petition for payments from a birth father an affiliation order..might be a different word in Scotland

If parents were married look at the occupations maybe not possible for them to look after child but they might have been paying for her upkeep .

Age 21 she could have been working or married so will be hard to find .

Good luck

Class: RG11; Piece: 246; Folio: 38; Page: 70

Clara is 11 months, not 11 years.
